This species is usually a small size with a mottled red, blue and yellow color. This sea star can reproduce asexually by casting off an arm which can grow into a new sea star. From the pattern, it can regenerate a new arm the same as the others. It can be found in shallow water. It can be either a suspension feeder and may also feed upon microscopic algae.
