HALIMEDA CRAB Huenia heraldica
« »
Small crab that lives in association with Halimeda algae. It is very well camouflaged, as it resembles its host not only with its green and white colour pattern, but also with its body shape imitating the shapes of the Halimeda blades. It often attaches the algal blades to its rostrum. This crab can almost disappear as its algae host renders it almost invisible to predators. It has a triangle body and carries Halimeda algae.
