Lia Barrett

Lia Barrett is an underwater, travel, and fine art photographer. Her work and interests have taken her around the world from the far corners of West Papua New Guinea to the deep darkness of the Cayman Trench. Her works ranges from coral reefs and macro critters to open oceans and pelagic wanderers.

Over the last year, she has focused much of her time on individuals and their relationship with water and nature, particularly freedivers. Her love of the ocean and appreciation for life has led her to bring conversations about conservation and individual impact into her work, and as a result, in 2013, she was honored to be selected as a member of the Ocean Artist Society.

Lia graduated from Parsons School of Design and Eugene Lang College in New York in 2007. She earned a degree in photography and a degree in sociology and history. Since graduating, Lia has been traveling the world on a continual quest for adventure while striving to improve her skills.

Her work has appeared in international scuba diving and travel magazines, newspapers, and blogs including The New York Times, CNN, CNN.com, Huffington Post, The Sun, ESPN.com, Salon.com, 60 Minutes, Ocean Geographic, The Inertia, Silverkris Magazine, Dive Photo Guide, Scuba Diver Australasia, Scuba Diver TTL, Asian Diver, Dive, Scuba Diving, Sport Diver, Mail on Sunday, Time, BBC Wildlife, BBC Travel, Time Out Shanghai, Korea Herald, and Wild Junket.

Inspired by life underwater, Lia is the creative mind behind the clothing line Prawno Apparel, a brand geared towards ocean lovers with an emphasis on conservation. Lia is also the Photo Editor of Dive Photo Guide.
