Ateş Evirgen (Sualti) began doing underwater photography in 1982 in Istanbul with a Nikonos IV-A camera and SB101 strobe and hasn’t stopped since. He has dived in almost every region of Turkey where he photographed underwater creatures and with those photographs, published a book called "Turkey With Photos of Marine Fishes".
After that, he started traveling all over the world, taking photographs in exotic seas and oceans. In 1993, he obtained his PADI instructor certificate and started giving underwater photography lessons. In addition to trips in his native Turkey, he has organized many tours to Indonesia, Micronesia, Maldives, Red Sea, South Africa, Mozambique, Mexico, Costa Rica and the Galapagos as well as to remote Antarctica and Swalbard (North Pole). He also founded a company that makes underwater photography equipment.
From 1996 to 2009 he started a diving photography magazine called "Marine Photo”, and is now publisher and editor of the online version of the magazine.
