Tasikoki Wildlife Rescue Center

Learn about how this organisation is protecting Sulawesi’s wildlife

Tasikoki is a non profit foundation which focuses on wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and release. Tasikoki is a well known institution in North Sulawesi, it also helps farmers to grow sustainable organic crops and assists the forestry department in their fight against illegal logging. The experienced team at the center work closely together with the local government, customs and excise department through conducting raids on smugglers of exotic animals in Bitung Harbour.

Animals which are found through this initiative are cared for in the beautiful 55 hectare rehabilitation facility. Volunteers from around the world come here to help to give these amazing animals a better future.

The facility has several endangered species in their care such as Crested Black Macaques and Gibbon Monkeys. Their aviaries have endangered Goliath Cockatoos, birds of prey and even the mighty Cassowary Birds from Papua. Other animals include salt water crocodiles, endemic Sun-Bears and Babi Rusa.

At Tasikoki you will be given a 2 hour tour of the facilities (and see the animals) which includes a short presentation about their project and the unique wildlife of Indonesia. The tour can be nicely combined with a trip to Tangkoko National Park to spot the elusive Spectral Tarsier.
