Jacob has a wealth of knowledge about both underwater photography and videography and offers formal courses, coaching and critiques as well as equipment recommendations, repairs, and advice.
Jacob Guy began capturing underwater images at a young age and in 2019 he was the Youth Winner in the prestigious British Wildlife Photography Awards. In the same year, Jacob was also commended in the Exeter Marine Photo Competition.
After completing his Level 3 Diploma in photography at Exeter College in the United Kingdom, Jacob went on to complete a bachelor’s degree in Marine and Natural History Photography at Falmouth University (UK) which he passed with first class honours.
Jacob has worked on several film productions including “Kelp!“, which was awarded best short film, at Big Syn Film Festival which is the biggest sustainability film festival in the world. Jacob’s other work includes “A Hidden Life of Coral“, and “When People Protect the Ocean“. Across these three productions, Jacob has shot both underwater stills and video footage, time lapses, and drone footage, as well as shooting in UV and the blue light spectrum using studio lighting.
Jacob and his work have been recognized widely in the media, most notably in the following publications, ‘Trawlermen – Hunting the Catch’ (BBC One), Scuba Diver Australasia & New Zealand Magazine, France TV New Delhi, Rewilding Britain, and Consano Earth, BBC and Nat Geo.
Jacob first visited Lembeh Resort in 2022 when he joined the Photo Center as an intern determined to carve his way out in the world of underwater photography pros. Jacob’s precise shooting combined with his artistic flair, technical knowledge, and tenacity for tutoring both Lembeh Resort staff and guests led to him being offered the highly sought-after position of Photo Pro in 2023.
Jacob is also the PADI Divemaster certification. Jacob is passionate about sharing his imaging knowledge and creativity with guests at Lembeh Resort through private underwater photography and videography courses. Jacob tailor-makes his courses to match individual needs, specific camera models, and any other equipment requirements. Whether you need assistance with a new camera system or would like to focus on specifics such as lighting, composition, or editing, Jacob is a patient and engaging mentor.
