This species had a flattened carapace and can have sharp marginal teeth (like the white ones pictured below). Its eyes are placed widely apart, near the outer edges of the carapace. The length of the body is up to 20 cm.

This species has a bold pattern and very spiny white antennae. It has wide abdominal bands with a white and tan pattern on its carapace. Juveniles have a brighter and more colorful look than adults. They are mostly nocturnal and like to hide in crevices during the day.
