Color is variable, usually mottled brown to reddish-brown, often with a whitish face. A white blotch is present on the upper side, with an irregular whitish bar beneath the rear of the second dorsal fin and another on the tail. Found at depths of 10 to 40 meters.

Shades of brown elongate black area on mid dorsal fin, large wing like pectoral fins chin have whiskers. Sometimes burry in the sandy bottom.

Blotchy shades of red to brown, dorsal fin deeply incised between each spine has general appearance similar to other waspfishes except head an anterior body is not nearly as compressed.

Found on sandy bottoms, usually hiding under pieces of rubble, detritus or sessile invertebrates. It has a small compressed body with knobs rather than spines on its head. Colour is usually velvet, brown or black but can be also orange. Can be mistaken for Lembeh velvet fist, but lacks the small orange spot behind gills.

Solitary species, found on silty and sandy bottoms in sheltered bays and on coastal reefs. Usually brown or red body colour with white blotches. Often has a white stripe across its face. Seen mostly at night but also can be found at day time.

Found on sand, mud, and rubble, this species sways with water movement, mimicking a dead or rotting leaf. It is encountered either solitary or in pairs and closely resembles the spiny waspfish, with the primary visible difference being the number of dorsal rays/ Colouration ranges from white to dark brown.
