DIVING EAST LEMBEH ISLAND

Exploring the coral reefs on the East Coast of Lembeh Island

Lembeh Island is world renowned for the phenomenal muck and critter diving which is found in the Lembeh Strait, however, comparatively little is known about the world class coral reefs which lay on the east coast of Lembeh Island – until now.

East Lembeh offers dramatic scenery, vibrant reefs and an abundance of marine life – including passing pelagics. Dive sites along the east coast of Lembeh include Fireball, Pantai Jiko, Pulau Mandolang and Pulau Dua. As we circumnavigate the entire island during our East Lembeh day trips we are also able to dive the incredible Batu Kapal or Dante’s Wall on the northern tip of the island.

East Lembeh’s dive sites give divers the rare opportunity to discover pristine reefs which are still largely unexplored. As we sail around the island, this feels like a true expedition into the unknown.

Unlike the black sand slopes of the Lembeh Strait, the east coast of Lembeh is punctuated by secluded coves, with tropical white sand beaches, which give way to stunning coral reefs. As you dive into the crystal clear waters be prepared for an explosion of color as soft corals adorn almost every dive site. Schooling fish are a common sight along with a multitude of vibrant reef fish – and look out for occasional passing pelagics including reef sharks, barracuda, tuna and napoleon wrasse.

Wide angle underwater photography opportunities are limitless on Lembeh’s east coast. Sea fans, canyons, coral draped pinnacles and kaleidoscopic reef scenes make perfect imaging subjects. Of course, this wouldn’t be Lembeh without critters – and there is no shortage of macro subjects among the reef.

Our East Lembeh day trips are three dive trips with lunch served on one of the remote beaches or on the boat according to the conditions.

Day trips depart after breakfast at 8.00am and return to Lembeh Resort at around 3.30pm. For an extra special experience we offer an option of departing at 5.30am for a sunrise trip which also includes breakfast on the boat as we watch the sun come up over the ocean. Trips can be arranged either in advance or in resort and are subject to availability. A boat surcharge of US $220 applies (to be divided among participants).
