Behind the Scene: July Employee of the Month
Congratulations to our Employee of the Month of July, Helen! If you have been to Lembeh Resort you will remember Helen’s smile.
Raised in Pintu Kota Kecil, a very small and poor village by the resort. Helen started working in Lembeh Resort in 2003 as a helper in the kitchen, she barely spoke english. She used to handle the egg station in the restaurant and since she loves to communicate with everyone she felt the need to learn English. She got a small dictionary that she would keep in the apron pocket to be able to translate and speak with guests. She would write words and sentences the guests would teach her and she would practice at home until she could say it well.
Helen is now one of the captains in the restaurant and her english level is quite good.She attends the english classes at the resort and she also teaches basic english to the kids in her village, Pintu Kota Kecil. She actively helps with all social commitment initiatives of the resort.
“I am very happy to work in Lembeh Resort for many reasons; I can learn english for free, practice with the guests and attend classes, I can borrow books from the resort’s library and nowadays my hobby is reading. But best of all I have friends from all over the world, and that makes me happy and proud. I learn so much about the world with the guests.”
Helen is a mother of Gabriel, 3 years old and Samuel 6 years old, she already tries to teach them english. We appreciate Helen for her dedication, enthusiasm and team work. The restaurant would not be the same without Helen’s smile 🙂
